Continuing Challenges for Veterans
Veterans are facing continuing and in some cases, growing, challenges after almost 100 days of a new president.
One of the continuing challenges for veterans is that we have a president who is ignorant on how to deal with wounded service members. In the following article, Trump Awards Purple Heart In First Visit To Walter Reed Military Hospital you can read more details about his quick trip to Walter Reed. Saying “congratulations” to a wounded service member is at the least, insensitive and at the most, insulting.
We also now have the US Congress trying to change the GI Bill again. Exclusive: Congress Is Quietly Trying To Pass A ‘GI Bill 3.0’ By Memorial Day details some of the underhanded tactics they are using to try to accomplish this. None of which makes sense if they are really trying to accomplish something worthwhile, why try to hide it? This is the second attempt to modify the GI Bill it the last two years. The GI Bill has been studied repeatedly and is proven to have grown the middle class and increase median earnings for veterans. So why, once again, is the US Congress trying to modify the GI Bill, to the detriment of veterans.
I found an article this weekend from last year that details reporting about how DHS and the VA Police are monitoring at least one veteran Facebook group, “VA is Lying.” DHS, VA Police Monitoring ‘VA Is Lying’ Facebook Group gives details and proof of this. Why is DHS monitoring veterans online? This happened under the previous administration and is in all likelihood continuing under this administration. We served this country and now they monitor us. This isn’t a Republican or Democratic thing, it is a problem with our politicians, especially those in Congress being bought by corporations who only care about the bottom line and profit.
We all need to monitor what is happening in Washington DC and communicate often with those elected to represent us about these continuing challenges for veterans.
